Recycling Requirements

Single Stream Recycling

Lower Pottsgrove Township now participates in Single-Stream recycling collection. Single stream allows residents to place all recyclables in one container. There is no need to separate. Single-Stream recycling will be collected by a compaction truck, only recyclables will be collected by this vehicle.

Recyclable Materials

Lower Pottsgrove Township requires all waste haulers to recycle the following materials:

  • Chip board (cereal boxes)
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers and all inserts
  • Office paper
  • Phone books

Cans

Accepted food and beverage cans:

  • Aluminum
  • Steel (tin)
  • Bi-metallic

No foil or food trays, aerosol or paint cans will be accepted.

Glass

Accepted food and beverage containers:

  • Clear glass
  • Green glass
  • Brown glass

No blue glass, light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, or ceramics.

Plastic

Number 1 through Number 7 food and beverage containers and laundry bottles. The number is typically found on the bottom of the product.

Cartons

Food and beverage cartons such as milk, juice, broth, etc.

Not Accepted

Paper items such as pizza boxes are not accepted.

How to Recycle

To recycle an item, please rinse all materials and remove lids. Labels do not need to be removed.

Commingled materials can be placed together in the recycling bin.

Paper items must be no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet and should be placed on the bottom of the recycling bin. Paper can be tied in bundles or bagged with paper grocery bags.

Reporting Requirements

All commercial and private haulers that operate in Lower Pottsgrove Township are required to report waste and recyclable tonnages to the Township on a quarterly and annual basis.
